National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a premier institute for fashion design, management and related courses. NIFT was founded in 1986 by the Government of India with the goal of training leaders in the textile sector. NIFT has been granted statutory status under the act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions.

Ranked as the premier institute of fashion management and technology in India, is the founder member of “Fashion Schools’ Foundation of the World”, which comprises 34 fashion schools worldwide. Many notable designers like Prabal Gurung, Ritu Beri, Manish Arora, Rajesh Pratap Singh, JJ Valaya, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, to name a few, are NIFT alumni. In 2006, the Parliament passed the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Bill, 2006, thereby receiving a statutory status and empowering the institute to grant its own degrees and other academic distinctions. It also counts among the coveted list of an Institute of National Importance by the Parliament of India

With its head office in New Delhi, NIFT has centres at Mumbai, Kolkata, Kangra, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Raebareli, Patna, Shillong, Bhopal, Kannur, Bhubaneswar and Jodhpur where it offers four-year bachelor and two-year master programmes in the areas of Design, Management and Technology.

The institute offers a two-year postgraduate diploma in design (PGD), and for those who want to work in the industry as designers or fashion technologists, there are three-year full-time programs that offer Bachelors of Science degrees in Fashion Technology with specializations like womenswear/apparel production technology; Menswear Production Technology; Accessories Manufacturing Technology. Graduates from these courses can go on to pursue advanced studies at NIFT’s one-year Master’s degree level which is also offered by distance mode for people living abroad.

The Institution’s flagship Masters in Public Administration degree program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the public sector.

The graduate will be able to:

• Create and implement policies that address social needs, such as poverty relief or educational quality improvement;
• Analyze management systems in order to improve efficiency through data analysis (e.g., increasing organizational productivity, decreasing costs);
• Understand the relationship between public programs and budgets, as well as the economies that influence those decisions;
• Utilize best practices in program evaluation to measure outcomes of government policy intervention.

The institution offers courses on quantitative analysis, economics, statistics, ethics and law for a comprehensive understanding of how public sector policy operates.
