1. What is the eligibility for admission to B.Arch Course?

A: No candidate, with less than 50% marks in aggregate, shall be admitted to the architecture course unless he/ she has passed an examination at the end of the new 10+2 scheme of Senior School Certificate Examination or equivalent with Mathematics as subjects of examination at the 10+2 level.

10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognised by Central/ State Governments with 50% aggregate marks.

or

International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination.

All Admissions to Architecture degree course shall be subject to passing of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by the Council of Architecture.

2. What is NATA?

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.

4. Who conducts NATA?

National Institute for Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA)

5. Who accepts NATA score?

All schools / colleges of Architecture, (Government, Government aided, University Departments, private unaided, including colleges affiliated to self-financed Deemed Universities and Private Universities, or any department of Architecture within a college).

6. Where is NATA conducted?

NATA is offered over major part of admission season at designated Test Centers located at colleges / schools of architecture in India.  In order to pass the Architectural Aptitude Test, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 40% marks.

7. Who takes NATA?

Prospective applicants desirous of taking admission to First year of undergraduate course in Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in India take NATA. NATA scores are used by admissions authorities of different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools / colleges of Architecture, to provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants.

8. Is giving NATA compulsory for taking admission to any Architectural College in India?

Yes it is; as prescribed by the Council of Architecture, a statutory body of Government of India created under section 3 of the Architects Act of 1972, prescribed with the authority to regulate architectural education in India.

9. By giving NATA, do I get automatic admission into any Architectural College in India?

No. NATA is just an Aptitude Test. On receiving the Score Card, the candidate will have to contact various admission authorities with NATA Score Card and other details (as prescribed by the respective Admission Authorities). Usually around summer, Admission Authorities will bring out admission notices in National & Regional newspapers. The candidate may contact schools of architecture directly for information as to when the admission process is scheduled to begin.

10. I am a foreign student / NRI. Can I take the test from my country of residence?

No. The candidate will have to register in India and give the test from any of the designated Test centres of his / her choice in India. The qualification process for giving NATA stands the same. Admission will be given by the respective admission authorities according to the rules laid down by it or students of such category.

11. If I belong to a particular quota (SC/ST/NT/etc.), do I get score waiver for NATA during admission?

No.

12. Do I have to appear for NATA at the college where I aspire to take admission?

No. You may appear for NATA at any Test center convenient to you. Based on the score you may seek admission to any college where you are eligible to seek admission.

13. More about NATA

The test shall consist of 2 papers:

(i) Test – I – Aesthetic Sensitivity – 100 marks – duration of test: One hour.(online computer adaptive test)

(ii) Test – II – Drawing – 100 marks – duration of test: Two hours.

14. What is the weightage given to the NATA score and the score in the qualifying examination?

The following shall be the weightage :

Architectural Aptitude – 50% (Maximum)

Qualifying Examination – 50% (Maximum)

i.e. 10+2 OR 10+3 years Diploma recognised by the Central / State governments OR IB Diploma and/ or other test.

Note: In order to pass the Architectural Aptitude Test, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 40% marks.

15: I want to be an Architect. Do I need to be good at Drawing?

Being good at Drawing has an advantage but it is not a pre-requisite. You need to be good at visualizing and planning and techincal drawing.
